There are tons of Windows 8 tablets on the market—too many, as a matter of fact. But, the HP ElitePad 1000 G2 manages to set itself apart, being tailor-made for business users. The Elitepad 1000 G2 has a beautiful, yet durable design and has built-in 4G LTE support, courtesy of Qualcomm’s Gobi 4G LTE connectivity. Unfortunately, while there are a plethora of Android tablet options out there, built-in 4G is something that most Windows 8.1 tablets still lack. Luckily, the ElitePad 1000 G2 changes all that. Not only does this Windows 8 tablet offer you 4G connectivity on the go, it’s not just limited to the United States—you can actually turn it on while traveling globally. We have not yet had the opportunity to test the 4G service internationally, but we love knowing that the option is there, and we’re sure that this feature alone will make mobile workers want the ElitePad 1000 G2 over other tablets.
When it comes to performance, the ElitePad 1000 G2 is powered by an Intel Atom Z3795 processor and 4GB of RAM. Under PCMark 08, our HP ElitePad 1000 G2 review model scored a benchmark of 1266.
We found general performance to be good, but not at all stellar. To that effect, we rarely had any slowdowns while performing tasks like web surfing and using Microsoft Office.
Elite Pad 1000 G2 Usb Adapter
Could this be a serious Photoshop machine? But overall, performance is solid. Unfortunately, a docking case and a keyboard case are not included, which is a shame, but they are available to purchase.
These accessories help transform the ElitePad into more of a desktop experience when needed. Other available accessories include the HP ElitePad Security Jacket, HP ElitePad Jacket, and an optical drive.
The 10.1″ diagonal WUXGA UWVA (1920 x 1200) display is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with anti-smudge coating. The display on our HP ElitePad 1000 G2 review model was good and pretty crisp with accurate color reproduction, and a healthy level of brightness.
Unfortunately, it’s nothing special and can’t compete with the premium displays out there, such as the one on the Surface 3. Fortunately, the display is also compatible with an optional digitizer, which is a great option to have at your disposal if you like to jot down notes or draw. The ElitePad 1000 G2 comes preloaded with HP Password Manager and Office Home & Student 2013, PDF Complete Software Corporate Edition, HP Wireless Hotspot, HP Manageability, HP PageLift, HP Support Assistant, HP SoftPaq Download Manager, Amazon Kindle, Box with a 50 GB free, and Netflix. The system is available with Windows 8.1 Pro as an option.

And, IT departments can rejoice—on the inside, there is hardware-based TPM 1.2 and HP Bios protection to keep things nice and secure. The ElitePad 1000 G2 also sports an 8 MP rear-facing camera with built-in flash and a 2.1 MP 1080p front facing camera, along with a dual-array mic and pretty impressive audio for a tablet, thanks to DTS sound. Unfortunately the front facing camera isn’t very good, but the rear facing camera is pretty good for a tablet camera.
Verdict HP Describes the as the “true tablet for business,” and after spending some time with it, we understand why. The 10-inch display on the system offers the perfect balance in terms of productivity, while also allowing the device to be travel friendly.
